Lori Geiger is the nurse staffing coordinator for Rapides Regional Medical Center. She is one of our nurse leaders. She works with all nurses: the new Registered Nurse Applicants (RNA's), the seasoned nurses, and the nursing leaders. She is very active as liaison with all the local colleges such as Northwestern State University, Louisiana State University at Alexandria, and Louisiana College. Lori collaborates with the Nursing Deans of the Universities to ensure a smooth transition for nursing students.
Lori is the first person nurses talk with when they are interested in employment at RRMC. Lori conducts all first interviews. She discusses areas where the nurse is interested and together they decide. Lori then schedules interviews with the nurse manager of that department. Lori has a great ability to make the nurse feel welcomed and relaxed.
Lori hires the majority of all graduating RN classes. She averages hiring 32 RNA's per semester. Lori is the nurse leader for our Residency Class. Through Lori's class and mentoring, RRMC has 5% turnover rate of 20%.
Lori has been a nurse for 25 years. She has worked in many different settings but is fast to say nurse recruiting is her favorite. Since Lori 'loves' to talk, the job is perfect for her.
In addition to other duties and responsibilities, Lori rounds on patients to assess patient experience. She also is quick to help patients and staff during her rounds. One such example of Lori's compassion occurred when a patient revealed that she was experiencing extreme anxiety about her little dog at home, locked in its cage. When Lori discovered that the patient had no one to walk her dog that day, she quickly offered to go check on the dog. The patient was very grateful that her dog was cared for and was able to see that the dog was okay by viewing a picture that Lori had taken of her dog after their long walk.
Thank you, Lori, for all that you do.
