Lori spent dozens of hours making arrangements for this through coordination with the clinical trial team over 100 miles from Erie, our Care-In-The-Community staff, and a local infusion center.
A young patient with a rare adult cancer transferred his care to the Erie VA from the West Coast to participate in a clinical trial at a large teaching hospital. His treatment requires very frequent labwork for transfusions as a side effect of his chemotherapy regime. In addition to keeping up with her routine PACT responsibilities and backup Traveling Vet Coordinator consults, Lori spent dozens of hours making arrangements for this through coordination with the clinical trial team over 100 miles from Erie, our Care-In-The-Community staff, and a local infusion center. This required a significant amount of paperwork, phone calls, obtaining the necessary signatures, excellent communication skills, and negotiating appointments for the young patient who also has significant logistical needs as a single parent. Lori's diligence and hard work resulted in getting the patient his daily/weekly labwork and transfusion process streamlined. This young patient has praised Lori numerous times for her conscientiousness, care, and concern.
