More than one single moment, it was the kindness, the attentiveness, the compassion, and the understanding that helped us overcome one of the most difficult moments we were faced with.
I was admitted to the Early Pregnancy Unit with a missed miscarriage. It was my first pregnancy and my husband and I were absolutely distraught. As far as we knew I should have been 12 weeks pregnant and all seemed to be going well. Being told the baby had stopped developing at 5 weeks was devastating news. From the moment I was admitted I was lucky enough to have met Nurse, Louise. Not having family or friends with us meant there was no one for us to share this horrible moment with; no one to comfort us, to talk to and to try and put into words what we were feeling. For the entire time I stayed at the hospital, Nurse Louise became a friend, more than looking after my physical health she took the time to make sure we had the emotional support we needed. Nurse Louise would come in every morning to check in on how we were, spent time talking us through what was happening and provided the answers that we needed to reassure us. More than one single moment, it was the kindness, the attentiveness, the compassion, and the understanding that helped us overcome one of the most difficult moments we were faced with. It is hard to convey how much my husband and I owe Nurse Louise for her extraordinary personality and commitment to her job. Nurse Louiseās ability to empathise and to provide the friendship that is so important during a fragile moment such as dealing with a miscarriage was a lifeline for which we are extremely grateful. We believe Nurse Louise undoubtedly merits this award and we would be delighted to see her efforts recognised and appreciated.
