In addition to her excellent patient care role, Ms. Florez often works as charge nurse and being bilingual, she is an advocate for our Spanish-Speaking patients.
I've been a nurse for 6 years. I've worked in 10 different hospitals, so I've really come across a lot of nurses. But I've never ever seen a nurse as good as Lourdes Florez. She is so kind to nurses, CNAs, and other team members, and more importantly, she is so good with her patients. All of her patients always ask about her because she is always helping everyone, not just her assigned patients. And when she is in charge, the unit runs smoothly. Everyone is happy, and she always strives to be fair to everyone. On top of that, whether she's the charge nurse, resource nurse, or just a floor nurse, she always helps all of us. That's why I've noticed that everyone, especially new nurses or travelers, asks her for help; she is kind and helpful. She always smiles at all patients and assists them, even if they aren't assigned to her. She helps them no matter what. Finally, she is always on top of everything when she is in charge. She is a truly valuable asset to this unit and to the hospital. Best of luck to her. I wish I could be a good nurse like you!

Lourdes Florez consistently goes above and beyond in her role as a registered nurse on 7B. She ensures that all team members get their breaks and provides support to make sure no one is left overwhelmed, creating a safe and caring environment. Her positive and fun attitude brings bright energy to the unit, making it feel calm and organized even during the busiest of shifts. When Lourdes is in charge, the unit runs smoothly, and the entire team can rely on her leadership. She is quick to respond to call lights, bed alarms, and telesitter alarms, ensuring patient safety and comfort with unmatched efficiency. Lourdes treats every patient with the compassion and care of a family member, showing that she became a nurse because she truly cares for others. In addition, Lourdes contributes innovative ideas to improve workflow on the unit, one example being our CLABSI project that kept 7B's CLABSI numbers at zero. She is always willing to mentor new nurses, sharing her knowledge and expertise with kindness and patience. Her dedication to her team and patients makes her an invaluable asset to 7B, and she is truly loved and respected by all who work alongside her.

The December 2024 DAISY Honoree has not been a nurse for a long time- a little over 2 years now. However, 7B has benefitted from her hard work and perseverance in the short time she’s been here. In addition to her excellent patient care role, Ms. Florez often works as charge nurse and being bilingual, she is an advocate for our Spanish-Speaking patients. In addition, she acts as 7B’s ASTER POE, an RN Preceptor to new graduates, and a representative on the Med-Surg & Special Procedure Fall Committee. Recently, she received a commendation from ANO and help them with a hospital staffing dilemma. Lastly, we can always count on her to participate in presenting case reviews at committee meetings, talk about our Hematology-Oncology Unit at educational fairs and provide good customer service to the patients and visitors.

I find Ms. Florez to be passionate about the Nursing Profession and strives to provide patients excellent care. This honor is well-deserved. Congratulations Lourdes!
