She brought me food and coffee, sat, and talked to me about her sister passing from cancer and my mother's newly found diagnosis.
My mother was admitted to WMH M/S unit. Ludy Cala RN was her nurse from 7pm to 7am. Ludy was very attentive to my mother. She checked on her every hour throughout the nights my mother was hospitalized. She brought my mother warm blankets during her stay because she knew my mother was cold-natured. The nursing care she gave was excellent. I am not only nominating Ludy for her patient care, but I am also nominating her because of the compassion she showed me, the patient's daughter. Finding out your mother has a mass in her lung is frightening for both the patient and for the family. As my mother slept I sat in a recliner next to her worrying, trying to plan and pray. Ludy would come into the room and ask me to sleep, ask me to lay down and rest. She brought me food and coffee, sat, and talked to me about her sister passing from cancer and my mother's newly found diagnosis. This comforted me. The last night my mother was in the hospital I could not stay with her because I had to work the next day. Ludy sent me multiple updates about my mom throughout the night. I am so proud to work with such a warm compassionate person. She is truly the definition of compassion. Nurses are and are expected to be, kind, courteous, friendly, and helpful, but when a nurse goes beyond her duties to comfort someone who is frightened, worried, and uninformed, this is the true definition of nursing.
