I am a patient with a chronic disease and tend to spend a lot of time in the hospital. Being in the hospital for extended periods of time and being in excruciating pain is a lot to deal with. Luis truly made the experience so much more pleasant for me. He went above and beyond for me even with just the little things. Recently I was hospitalized requiring surgery. When I got assigned a room post-op, I saw he was a nurse on the floor. Although he was not my nurse, he frequently came to check in on me and ask if I needed anything.
Today, I was lucky enough for him to be my nurse. I unfortunately did not have any visitors today, but he made sure that I never felt alone. Every time I needed help getting up to the chair or walking, he was there to assist. He did everything in his power to make my movement as painless as possible, even if it meant picking me up only to sit me back down again. When it was time to go on walks, I would always return to clean linens and fresh pillows. Each time I turned a corner or reached a new milestone Luis was there to cheer me on. I never felt like a burden utilizing the call button. He made me feel like a human rather than a patient.
It is so very clear that he loves his job, and it shows with every person he comes into contact with. Even my mom was impressed. On days when she was unable to visit it brought her comfort knowing that I was at least under his care. If I had him as my nurse every hospitalization, I don’t think I would ever shed another tear. There really aren’t enough positive words to capture how special he is. I just know that when I look back at my time in the hospital, I don’t always look at it as a stressful time because he made sure I was taken care of. It’s the little things in life that make such a huge difference. Luis has made some of my most traumatic hospital stays bearable. I can’t think of anyone who deserves to be recognized for the care they provide their patients more than him. Thank you for making a difference in my life.
