My daughter had severe belly pain. We came in through the ED and she was admitted to the fifth floor. My daughter had never been in the hospital before, and she is autistic. These situations are always tricky, and the people caring for her make all the difference. Luke Ebright was that person who made all the difference. He got it. He understood overstimulation, lead time, and step-by-step processes. He was so understanding with her. He understood her fear and anxiety. He explained therapy to us in a way she and I could understand. I am so grateful he was our night nurse. We even discussed what he had told us and waited for him to come on shift. He volunteered to be with us all weekend. My daughter felt taken care of because she knew he would be there. I felt relieved because he would be there. Autism is different for everyone, and people tend to overlook her needs; it is always a battle. But that battle did not happen here, and it was because of Luke. His caring, passion, incredible bedside manner, quality care, and education made this first surgery for my daughter amazing. I am truly grateful!
