I am a new grad nurse on the unit, and making the transition from graduating nursing school to becoming an RN on the floor has definitely not been without difficulties. Lyndon truly embodies the kind of nurse I aspire to be every shift I work. Whenever I work with him, I always feel encouraged to ask questions and want to further my learning. He loves to teach and that's seen every night when he works one on one with his patients, whether it's walking side by side with patients who have received kidney or liver transplants, or something as simple as explaining to me why a procedure is done. He is the foundation of 2N during nights as he is the person I seek when I'm experiencing difficulties. Lyndon never hesitates to help and I think that having him as a resource the floor has helped me deliver quality care to my patients. I want to emphasize that Lyndon has ALWAYS been a source of guidance and information.
What's really extraordinary about Lyndon is that despite the chaotic times on the floor he somehow manages to recognize his coworker's accomplishments during morning huddles or meetings. Lyndon is persistent on making these accomplishments known; whether it's having a heavy patient load or being a part of RRT's when least expected. Lyndon has recognized my hard work as a new nurse and his praise only pushes me that much more to work harder. I see the time and effort Lyndon gives each of his patients and he does it with compassion, grace, and with a big smile. These feelings are not staged for I see the joy that comes across his face when he sees his post-op patient on day 1 start to walk, or explain that their pain is being well managed. Furthermore, Lyndon is by far the strongest advocate I have come across to make the patient experience the best possible one.
NYP is about putting patients first and enhancing the patient experience to increase satisfaction. Lyndon embodies all of this. When his patients aren't able to voice their opinions effectively, he is their voice. Lyndon works tirelessly until his patients' needs are met. He is what a nurse should always strive to be. I may have only been working on 2N for a year, but as a new grad nurse, I have gained knowledge and experience that will resonate throughout my nursing career for years to come, and for that I have to thank Lyndon.
Lyndon is the heart and soul of 2N, and I know that receiving this award would mean a great deal to him. He deserves to be recognized for everything he's done, and I would like to pay that forward.
