Lynn Eacker is an outstanding nurse and deserves to be honored with the DAISY Award. I have seen her demonstrate our values of Reverence, Excellence, Integrity, Trustworthy, Compassion, and Advocacy in her daily activities. An example that I witnessed recently was when Lynn performed these activities is as follows:

Lynn had a patient who had a carotid surgery done the prior day and was scheduled to go home. After a walk, the patient’s incision opened up and when the aide called for Lynn she acted fast. She utilized her resources immediately by calling extra staff, the charge nurse, the House Manager and the doctor. A Rapid Response was initiated and the Director and Manager were notified. Everyone worked well as a team. During all of the chaos, Lynn did not forget the patient or the families’ needs.

Lynn kept talking to the patient during this, keeping him calm before going back to surgery. She then proceeded to get someone to watch her other patients and walked the family down to the surgery waiting room. Lynn waited with them, called pastoral care, and provided support until other family members arrived. Later in the day, Lynn took time out of busy schedule to go check on the patient and the family. You could tell that the family definitely trusted Lynn and appreciated her
attentiveness, compassion, reverence, and nursing excellence. Lynn was a great advocate for her patient and family. At the end of the day the doctor notified Lynn and told her what a great job she did!

Lynn is an excellent nurse and advocate and very deserving of the DAISY Award.
