She and another nurse brought in old CDs to play for him and they called his niece when he was close to passing so that she could be on the phone and hear his last breath.
When I think of what it means to be a DAISY, I think of Lynn Hayes. I am amazed at the compassion and dedication that she displays. I had the privilege of being Ms. Hayes Nurse Manager on 1B Hospice and I wanted her to be recognized for the amazing nurse that she is. One particular day I heard about the love that she displayed to a veteran dying on hospice and it has stuck with me as one of those special moments between a nurse and a patient. It was during the COVID outbreak and visitors were not allowed on the unit, until their last moments. This can sometimes be difficult to determine and this veteran's family lived states away, so they were not able to plan to be here in his final moments quickly. He was a musician and taught classical music if I remember correctly and she wanted to make sure his last moments were peaceful and that he was not alone. She and another nurse brought in old CDs to play for him and they called his niece when he was close to passing so that she could be on the phone and hear his last breath. The niece later expressed gratitude to Ms. Hayes and was so thankful that she had made every effort to allow her to be present with her Uncle as he passed away. This is just one example of the love that Ms. Hayes shows her patients. I am so thankful that I was able to spend time working with her and I know she will continue to impact so many patients, families, and staff in her coming years at TVHS.
