She didn't know us, but we could tell she had professional pride in what she did as a nurse that even if it wasn't her problem, she was a nurse, and she was going to find a solution.
Lynnett was an incredibly skilled and kind nurse who made a real impact on us. Without her, we wouldn't have made it through this experience nearly as well or wanting to come back to Cleveland Clinic. She inherited several issues that were in no way related to her (contradicting orders on bedrest / therapy, lack of DME, missing pharmacy orders) and she took it upon herself to make sure everything got taken care of. She never missed a beat on caring for us and was as kind, professional, and efficient as ever - you can tell she was a pro and had been a great RN for a while. Above and beyond, though, you could tell she took it personally that HER patients were going to be cared for well. She didn't know us, but we could tell she had professional pride in what she did as a nurse that even if it wasn't her problem, she was a nurse, and she was going to find a solution. She was going to call whomever she needed to as many times as she needed to until the doctors gave her the right information so she could provide care for her patients appropriately. When we didn't have the DME we needed, she was sourcing walkers/shoes for us to ensure we had a safe transfer situation until we could get to a pharmacy ourselves. When the Resident MDs couldn't answer the questions, she kept calling until she got the right instructions to follow. Without that, we wouldn't have known what to do.
As a patient my whole life (this was surgery #34) with various shunt surgeries and lymphedema problems at Mayo, Riley, and now Cleveland Clinic, I'm used to being a patient. I know the routine and what to expect, and I know what's on the doctors vs. the RNs or aides, etc. When someone goes very far above and beyond to ensure her patients get taken care of, yet does so with skillful efficiency and respect, it's worth noticing. She was a seasoned pro, yet still cheerful. None of these problems were hers, but we were HER patients, and that meant we were going to get great care no matter what. We needed that from someone that day - very badly after some tough experiences at Cleveland Clinic - and I'm very, very grateful to Lynnett for her skill, diligence, and heart behind what she does.
