Pam was assigned to care for four patients on our busy 2-West unit. Pam was assigned to give the patient a shower and apply treatment for the condition. Pam did not seem upset at having to complete the task and did not complain at all. Instead, Pam embraced the opportunity to make a connection with her patient and the two of them could be overheard chatting as Pam went about her task. Pam was so pleasant and caring as she washed her patient and applied the treatment. She showed great compassion for the patient, speaking softly and so kindly to her. Pam is the perfect example of what the heart of nursing is all about.
***
We had a demented patient with contact precautions secondary for the condition. Pam went beyond her duties to show compassion while applying the treatment. The patient was tearful as she had lost her cat and Pam brought a soft toy cat for her. I saw that the patient was extremely happy and cuddling that toy. While doing the above, she made sure she was properly following contact isolation guidelines. I wish her all success in life.
