I received a partial knee replacement and Macie was my nurse after I reached my room. As soon as I arrived at my room, Macie immediately introduced herself and made me feel "at home". Just moving here recently, and knowing very few people, she made me feel like I had been a part of this community forever.
She went the extra mile for the 6 or 7 hours left on her shift to make sure I was comfortable and understood everything she was giving me before I took it. She also took the time to ask about my family, my children and took interest in what I was saying. When my daughter came after school, Macie even said, "You must be the oldest daughter!" Not many nurses take the time to really get to know their patients, especially knowing I was going to be discharged the next morning. She and my husband talked about Thanksgiving and what the plans were since I wasn't going to be able to cook. She even made him feel better about attempting to make Thanksgiving dinner!
I have been in several hospitals and have not seen a nurse go out of her way as Macie did. I am sure Macie is this way with all of her patients, but for me, she was extraordinary.
