Maddie was always there, ensuring M got the attention she needed.
Maddie Kajencki is one of the greatest nurses our daughter, M, has had for her first BMT treatment. BMT was a new experience, and Maddie made a point of being awesome with M. In the beginning, when doing the chemotherapy and with the side effects, to ensure a bath is completed every four hours, she made something M would usually dread into something where M didn't mind and would ask Maddie when it was coming up, what music they would listen to. At night, when M was sleeping, she was like a ninja. When the side effects got bad, Maddie came in and checked on M and showed her pictures of her kitten to cheer her up. Maddie was our nurse one night, and M was having nose bleeds and coughing all day; she was miserable. That night, she coughed up blood. I was nervous, scared, and feeling like I was going to be sick everywhere. While I was composing myself, Maddie was always there, ensuring M got the attention she needed. After a procedure to look at M's lungs, we were in the NICU for a few days before coming back to the 4th floor. Maddie came to see M when we got back to check in with her and us and try to cheer M up. Maddie is a great nurse, and I'm sure others who have her on the floor feel the same way. I just want to say thank you to Maddie and all the nurses we have had during this chapter in our lives.
