I wanted to nominate Magela Hernandez because I’ve never had a nurse who has been so thorough, compassionate, loving, and who puts herself in the patient’s position. I can’t ever say that I have had a nurse who cares so much for the patient and goes above and beyond to make sure that I’m comfortable and that there’s nothing more she can do to make my time here the best it can be. I mean it’s just the little things like if I was up all night with a fever and finally fell asleep and they brought my breakfast, she knows that I love my whole milk, that she kept it and put it in the fridge without me asking her to. The thing that touched my heart the most was that my son had driven for hours to come see me, and when they got here, they were told they were not allowed to come see me because they weren’t 18. She spoke to all the managers on the floor, and everyone said no because of hospital policies. Still, she wasn’t going to stop there because she knew I was upset and crying and had been looking forward to seeing them for two days and she ended up calling the doctor and talking with him to allow me to be able to go downstairs so I could go down and spend 30 minutes with them. She is the most positive and upbeat nurse and when she comes in, there’s no way she won’t have you smiling by the time she leaves.
