Maia was our first nurse on the pediatrics unit during my 5-week old daughter's hospital stay. It was very late at night, and my partner and I were very exhausted. Maia did a thorough intake assessment of our K. I've noticed, as a nurse myself, that some nurses skip over questions regarding religious preferences and the more detailed/"less important" questions of an intake assessment in order to get through it quicker. Maia had asked if we had a religious preference and any spiritual or religious concerns. Between dealing with my newborn's health issues and moving back to Michigan from Wyoming, I really have not had time to look into getting her baptized. But as a Catholic, this is something that's important to me and my family. Maia made sure a chaplain came and visited us during our stay, as well as a Catholic priest. Fortunately, I was able to gather some information and get phone numbers for churches in my area. K was blessed and prayed over by so many people during our stay. This definitely brought peace to me as her mother, and I am grateful that Maia addressed these questions during our intake because, without it, we wouldn't have received those extra spiritual blessings during our stay.
