I am a 25 yr old female who had a procedure done. I had a tumor, 14 cm in size, about the size of a melon. My incision extended vertically from my belly button to my pubic bone. Maira was there to take off the bandage the next day. I was really scared to see it, and how it would affect my self-esteem since I knew the incision had to be big based on the size of the tumor. I know I had a terrified look on my face when she said it was time to take off the bandage because she immediately said it would be okay and for me not to worry. She said my incision looked great and clean, but I could not bend forward to look so I asked her to take a picture and she nicely agreed. Throughout the day, my pain was unbearable, and she calmly explained how the pump worked and to press the button to call her at any time, however many times necessary, so she could manage my pain. I pressed the call button so many times and each time she greeted me with a smile. Maira taught me how to get up to/from the bed to use the restroom without using my abdominal muscles to avoid damage to my incision. In order for me to get discharged, I had to pass gas, but I was already on my 3rd day and it was not happening. I felt really discouraged, but she encouraged me to keep walking and offered to guide me through some exercises that would facilitate things. I did the exercises as she told me and then she advised that I chew gum for 20 min. 30 min later after doing all that and drinking lots of water, it worked! I was so excited and so was she since I could finally get off the liquid diet which I had complained about continuously. Today she gets to discharge me, and I cannot thank her enough for everything she did during my stay. Maira was nice, genuine, and caring since the moment she introduced herself.
