Mala is a huge reason our child, S, did so great in the NICU and was able to come home when she did. My husband and I did not have to worry when we knew Mala was S's nurse. Mala was her nurse for multiple shifts during her stay in the NICU. S is our first child. As new parents, Mala educated us on how to care for a newborn. She made us feel more confident and prepared for when we would take our little girl home. When my husband or I came to visit S, Mala made sure we understood everything that was going on with her plan of are. S had trouble maintaining her blood sugar levels mainly. Mala had a great idea that we bring socks for S to help her keep her feet warm since she also had trouble regulating her body temp. I believe the warmth from the socks helped increase her circulation in her feet to help with more accurate blood sugar checks. After wearing the socks, we saw a rapid increase in her blood sugar levels that eventually led to the discontinuation of the IV infusion. There was even a day that we came to the NICU and S was wearing a cute hat. Mala went and picked out the hat herself from the donations. It put a huge smile on our faces knowing she was being cared for so well. Mala is an excellent nurse. She not only puts her patient at ease but also the family. Mala is an amazing nurse that Kaiser is lucky to have on its team!
