Marchele expertly identified the potential for a life-threatening condition should the swelling continue, implemented the appropriate Shannon emergency protocols and procedures, and offered to transport her coworker to the Emergency Room.
Marchele Jordan, a Registered Nurse on the Correctional Health team, was working with her coworker when her coworker began to experience symptoms of an allergic reaction. As her coworker's face and neck began swelling, Marchele expertly identified the potential for a life-threatening condition should the swelling continue, implemented the appropriate Shannon emergency protocols and procedures, and offered to transport her coworker to the Emergency Room. Relief was provided and, since the coworker was not allowed to drive herself in case her symptoms worsened, Marchele transported her coworker to the ER in her private vehicle so that the coworker could avoid having to be taken from her workplace via ambulance. Not only did Marchele transport her coworker to the ER, but when her supervisor arrived and offered to stay with the coworker in order to transport her back to work when discharged, Marchele insisted on staying with her teammate throughout her assessment, and treatment and drove her teammate back to her vehicle at our workplace even though it was long after the end of her 12-hour shift. In doing so, Marchele not only exemplifies the ANA Code of Conduct for Nurses, but also shows that she is dedicated to our shared mission to provide exceptional care to our friends, families, and neighbors. Marchele lives Our Shannon Way and demonstrates that in her care for our customers both internal and external wherever and whenever she finds the need. Thank you for considering Marchele, a valued member of the Correctional Health Services team for this award!
