She always thinks "outside the box" while treating patients to make the visit more comfortable.
I am a nurse manager for the Beverly Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and I would like to recognize Margaret Graves for her outstanding nursing skills. We have a patient at the wound center that we have been treating on and off for a few years, so she has become like family to us. Sadly, the patient was diagnosed with cancer and only had a few months left to live. While treating the patient, Margaret Graves learned that one thing she always wanted to do was go deep-sea fishing. After checking to make sure it was ok, Margaret booked a deep-sea fishing excursion out of Yankee Fleet in Gloucester and took the patient fishing (with her family members). The patient caught two fish and had an amazing, memorable time. Margaret is an amazing nurse with such a huge heart. I wanted to recognize her for this! She always thinks "outside the box" while treating patients to make the visit more comfortable. She often finds out what music the patient likes and plays it for them during visits to help make them less anxious. Sometimes, you will hear an Adele song being bellowed out by both Margaret and the patient. It is the best sound! Margaret will bring in certain things she knows a specific patient loves, like lemon candies in one instance, for a birthday or any occasion. Margaret really knows how to connect with her patients. Not only is she a specialized, skilled clinician, she has a heart of gold and would give anyone the shirt off her back.
