Maggie has changed our son's life, and quite frankly, our lives as well. She has been his voice, and his advocate, and you simply cannot teach someone that.
I have worked in healthcare, specifically in the Dept of Medicine at UofL, and am now supporting 5 cardiologists in an administrative role. I am prefacing with these facts, because I have seen many many healthcare workers, in both an outpatient and Inpatient setting. My partner has as well, and we completely agreed upon what I want to share, and for Maggie, specifically. We are waiting to take home our foster son, and could not possibly love him any more than we do. He has never left the NICU, and he is 16 months old. This is where Maggie comes in…. Every nurse in the unit is extraordinary. However, Maggie is exemplary. Knowing that our son has had no one. No parental security, no ungloved touch. He has never seen a maskless face. But what that baby does have, is Maggie. She smiles at him with her eyes. I truly believe that the love, affection, and care that she has shown him, are unparalleled. I support floor nurses in units all over the hospital. But, what this NICU NURSE has done with this broken little human is nothing short of divine. Maggie deserves this nomination. Maggie has changed our son's life, and quite frankly, our lives as well. She has been his voice, and his advocate, and you simply cannot teach someone that. She loves my child, yes, but there is no true love without action. Maggie is a soldier for these little ones. She is special, and anyone would be so lucky to have her In their lives, as well as an organization. Personally, Maggie has shown me, through her care and advocacy for our son, that when a soul can be healed, the body follows. I hope that you will recognize Maggie with this award. She is truly, truly an exemplary Nurse, but she is also extravagantly compassionate with these little souls. And we certainly love and adore her. However, the true confirmation comes from a tiny 16-month-old baby boy, whose eyes turn the most Irishly Brilliant blue whenever she walks into his room. You should be so proud of her. She and her teammates and colleagues should be recognized at every turn, especially now, especially Maggie.
