I don’t think I have ever had a nurse be as kind and dedicated to helping me the way she did.
I nominate Maria Carmela Guerra as the best night shift BSN! Helpful is an understatement. She goes above and beyond to help all patients and is overall a beautiful soul, kind spirited and deserves to be recognized.

While I was a patient, I had a horrible time trying to fall asleep, and when I finally broke down, she sat on the floor with me while I cried about being in so much pain from lack of sleep. I had an allergic reaction to one of the medications prescribed for sleep, and I went up to the front desk for help, and she immediately stopped in her tracks to assess the problem and help me. Within minutes, she had contacted the on-call doctor to see what the next steps were to resolve the issue. I went back to my room, but she continuously came back and checked on me until she got a message back with the solution. She got the meds I needed and brought them straight to me, then continued to check on me while multitasking.
When the first solution did not work, she found another while giving me ice packs and also addressing my sleep issue and how to fix that as well. Her overall demeanor was set on making sure I was okay. Mind you, she took care of all this several nights in a row for me while still working hard on her other tasks as a nurse and keeping tabs on all patients on the unit. I don’t think I have ever had a nurse be as kind and dedicated to helping me the way she did. To make all of it even better, her care was so genuine and organic. I can only imagine how many more great things she has done for her patients when she was so kind and dedicated to my issues.

From the moment my kids left me, she made me feel so comfortable. I was so scared to be in a setting with so many strange people. She made me feel so comfortable, and that will never be forgotten.

I was very ill physically when I came in, although not on a “medical unit," Carmela showed attention to me exceeding a 5-star hotel. Problem solved, food issues as well, and always had a smile and her attitude and constant smile was infectious to make me feel better.

She is just so smart, sweet, and attentive. She makes me feel noticed and makes sure I get my meds and that I’m OK. She deserves a raise.
