Maricel has excelled and continued to grow and advance her clinical knowledge by obtaining her CCRN and maintaining chemo and wound care certifications. She is flexible and generous with her time and will often come into the ICU to administer chemotherapy and monitor patients during treatment. Maricel uses her strong clinical knowledge of skin, wounds, and ostomies to educate and mentor staff to provide the best patient care possible.
Maricel has taken on the role of charge nurse and resource nurse. As a leader, she consistently rounds on patients and their families to ensure that we are meeting their needs and expectations. She takes the time to connect with her patients and their families and explains things in a way that allows the families to feel at ease when they leave their loved one in her care. As a leader, she willingly mentors new ICU RNs in their role by supporting them and developing their clinical decision-making abilities. She is sensitive to their needs and uses those teaching moments to make a positive impact.
As a staff nurse, Maricel is compassionate and caring. She is involved in hospital and unit activities. Maricel always volunteers as a Skills Day validator and is an excellent educator.
