My mother was hospitalized following emergency surgery and spent about 10 days in the surgical ICU. Marie was her nurse on the final day of her life. My mother wanted Last Rites performed. It was the holiday weekend and reaching someone for pastoral services was impossible. Marie went into action, calling local parishes for help.
After calling several and having no luck, Marie called her parish priest who came over and performed Last Rites. Marie asked if she could stay and pray with the family. She recognized the importance of this ceremony and made it happen. My mother passed away a couple of hours later. Marie's kindness and compassion will forever be remembered. Henry Ford Health System is fortunate to have her on board and we would like her to be recognized for her care, concern, and compassion.
