Throughout her career at Children's, Marilyn Hoseit has shown an unbelievable commitment to our families, and is an incredible role model to many of us. Because of her excellent nursing skills, her devotion, her loving and nurturing nature, she has formed bonds with her patients that have lasted from many years. Her "care" doesn't end when her patients are discharged, she becomes a part of their families - a mentor and friend for life. I have often watched her interact with families and silently wished that more of us could keep the enthusiasm, care, love and devotion that she shows even after so many years of nursing.

Recently, Marilyn was a primary nurse for a long term patient. The patient had multiple issues and always required very skilled nursing care.During his whole hospitalization, Marilyn never took a break from caring for him, which would be completely understandable. Unfortunately, after a long battle, he did not survive. His family made the difficult decision to let him rest. Marilyn guided the family through the whole process. She cared for the 2-year-old sibling when parents came to visit, so they could have uninterrupted time with him. She arranged for the Now I lay Me Down To Sleep organization to come and take professional pictures with him and his whole extended family. She made such a difficult time in the life of a parent more bearable through her guidance and care. On the day that the family was saying goodbye, she was here, on her day off, to be with the family. She sat with them for many hours, never leaving their side. She took her patient so his family could take a break and process the grief that they were experiencing. She was there for them until he took his very last breath, and even after he had passed she stayed with them and walked with them through every moment and tough decision of laying him to rest.
I truly cannot describe in words what that meant to the family and to all of us, who watched her selfless care and devotion to one patient's family. Marilyn Hoseit is a shining example of what passionate and selfless nursing care is supposed to be.
