She treated our daughter the way one would treat their own child.
Where do I begin? Like anyone else here, we are not here under good circumstances. My daughter was transferred in by ambulance in critical condition to Cardinal Glenn emergency room early in the week. She had been sick for days. Her sister was set to get married on Saturday. She did not want to miss the wedding, and she didn't want them to cancel. As a mom, I have wrestled to be with one child during one of the hardest times of her life and another child during one of the greatest times of her life. We greatly hoped she would be out of the hospital by then, but from the beginning, that did not look promising. Not knowing which way to turn, I asked them if we could have the wedding at the hospital. The nurses here worked hard and were so happy and giddy about helping to make sure that that would be as perfect of a day as it could be. Marilyn was our nurse on this day. She was so so happy to serve both of our daughters. As she went from patient to patient, she also came in to help me figure out the room and make sure that my daughter, who is very sick, was taken care of as well. She came in during the wedding to take photos for us as well as taking care of her other patients. We knew that she was taking care of other patients because once in a while, she would just disappear. She would come back with enthusiasm and excitement. She received a call while she was in our room, offering for her to leave early. She declined to be able to care for our family. Her attentiveness to patients' needs was exceptional, not just for the wedding but in every way. She treated our daughter the way one would treat their own child. She seemed to catch all of the small details, like putting the drain cup from infection on the back of the toilet, to searching for supplies that we needed for my daughter's care and coming back with extras because she thought of things that we might need, and she was right. The other thing that stood out about her was how she listened to you and was extremely humble. She was educated but not so educated that she forgot to listen to the parents and the patient. What an extraordinary employee. Cardinal Glennon should be proud to call her theirs.
