I came in with critically low levels of platelets and had an active nosebleed. Marisa quickly gave me gauze for my nose and worked with the charge nurse and NP on call to get me the platelets I needed ASAP after my blood work. She also noted that I needed a blood transfusion and quickly got that ordered. She read through my chart and noticed that I had previously critically low levels of potassium and phosphates and worked with the NP to approve labs to check my current levels. Turned out I was critically low. Because I was already receiving antibiotics from a pump on one of my lumens, she researched the compatibility of the antibiotic and potassium and found they were compatible and used a “turkey” foot so I could receive the meds at the same time. During this whole time, she kept checking on me to see that I was comfortable and had everything that I needed. She made me feel safe and cared for, and her knowledge and competence made me feel that I was receiving the best care possible. She went above and beyond for my care, and I am truly appreciative of her!
