Marissa still advocated for her patient and the hospitalist on duty was called and confirmed although subtle it warranted evaluation.
Urban 2 RN Marissa Gubitosa had a COVID positive patient and during her shift, Marissa noticed a subtle change in the left side of his lip. She called the house supervisor to ask for their opinion on whether or not the patient could possibly have had a stroke as all of the other stroke assessments that should be positive were not. Upon the house supervisor's evaluation, they also could see this subtle change that Marissa pointed out; however, when they did the stroke assessment all other signs were negative as well. Marissa still advocated for her patient and the hospitalist on duty was called and confirmed although subtle it warranted evaluation. A CT scan and a CT angiogram confirmed the patient did, indeed, have changes noted from tests done the day before. Marissa Gubitosa's excellent assessment skills and her diligence to advocate for her patient were impressive and commendable.
