I had just come up from post-op from a double mastectomy and this bubbly nurse with her sweet smile helped and made me feel so comforted. I was scared, in pain, and unsure how I was going to feel. She got me situated in bed and then came back with water and a shampoo cap and said you’re going to love this. She washed my hair and that warm cap just felt so good. I mean my hair was clean as I showered the night before but it was the massage and feeling special in a really scary and vulnerable state. Her nurse assistant Hailey was also a gem. She came back and brushed my hair and French braided it since I wouldn’t be able to do anything with my hair for a while. She also brought cookies at the end of her shift. Mariya came to check in several times, spoke with my husband, and even helped us order a mastectomy pillow on Amazon. I am a nurse as well and I know how important those first few hours after surgery are. What she didn’t know was that my surgery was also on the day I lost my dad a few years back. So I was dealing with those emotions too but knew he was with me. She gave me strength and support I didn’t know I needed at the time. I honestly can’t say enough about her. She was my angel I needed to get through those first hours of recovery. I am forever grateful for the love and support she showed me and her pure kindness. All my nurses I had were wonderful but she’s an angel dressed as a nurse.
