Marren exhibits respectful compassion and a passion for excellence in all that she does.
Marren came to our department as an agency nurse and since has decided to stay on full-time. She has been recognized multiple times by her peers, other departments, and her patients for giving compassionate and competent care. One story that I would like to share came from the daughter of a patient that Marren cared for recently.
A very sick elderly gentleman came into our department and was there several hours before he was able to be admitted inpatient. Marren was his primary nurse and was able to stay at the bedside with him through the entirety of his stay with us as his condition was very fragile. Although the daughter of this man was obviously distraught and had so much on her mind, she took the time later to call the charge nurse and let them know exactly what Marren had meant to her father and their family. In her words, "Marren Hall was outstanding, a saving grace, and had a calming effect". She also stated that Marren was "instrumental in saving my dad".
Marren exhibits respectful compassion and a passion for excellence in all that she does. Marren was also recently recognized by our registration department for taking the time to come out to the waiting room to update a family of a critical patient. This department states, "Family had been waiting hours for an update on an overdose when Marren Hall (RN), who was covering a lunch in triage overheard them asking the greeter again if they could get an update. When she finished covering in triage, she took the initiative to go to the back and get an update for the family herself. She came back out, sat next to them, and compassionately spoke with them about what the plan was for the patient. She did an amazing job acknowledging their worries and concerns and they were so grateful -- as were we in registration since we feel so helpless when we try but can't get updates for family members. She is an awesome nurse and we love getting to work with her!"
Marren shows a deep interdependence when working with our ancillary departments. Marren was also recently nominated by her peers for Employee of the Month for February for exemplifying Sister Simone Roach's 7 Cs of nursing. Marren is a shining example of what nursing is at its foundation. She is compassionate to patients and families, competent in her skills as a nurse, conscientious about her effect on her community, confident in her decisions, committed to her calling, displays the comportment expected of our profession, and uses creativity to care for her patients in an often chaotic environment. I know that is a lot to say about one person, but she is so deserving. We are very fortunate to have her in our department and also as a representative of nursing at NGHS.
