Her unwavering support, positive attitude, and dedication are truly a gift. She displays great leadership to the team and is always available to act as a resource and provide help.
I am writing to nominate Martha Jones, RN, for a DAISY Award. Martha is an RN with 18 years of experience across different settings who also holds a master's degree in nursing education. Martha has been a member of the RRH Ambulatory Care Management department for going on 5 years and holds a senior title in that department. She plays an integral role is assisting the director with daily operational tasks. Martha also holds a certification in case management. She has been a crucial piece to the successful re-building of the department that experienced a huge loss of staff during the Covid pandemic. As one of 4 care managers left out of 14 she was essential in maintaining a high level of standards and care for patients across the primary care network. During her first week on the job she graciously took on the challenge of moving to an inpatient role to assist with throughput of Covid patients at RGH. Martha has also recently supported the onboarding of 10 new care managers to our team by providing them with a successful orientation experience and acting as their preceptor all while maintaining the duties expected of a Senior RN Care Manager.
Her unwavering support, positive attitude, and dedication are truly a gift. She displays great leadership to the team and is always available to act as a resource and provide help. She engages the team during daily huddle and helped to plan and deliver a team building day for the department. Additionally, she provided small welcome gifts to team members and came up with creative ideas to make connections, such as a Boo basket exchange. Martha’s leadership can be summed up using three words: preparation, passion, and pursuit!
Recently, Martha came to the aid of a co-worker. She was communicating with this person via teams when the typed messages became incoherent until a message came through- I’m having a stroke, call 911- at least that was what she was able to decipher from the garbled set of letters and numbers that appeared on her screen. Out of concern for a colleague at an alternate site that she was at least 20 minutes away from, Martha quickly stepped into action to gain aid. Knowing that this person worked in a suite at Riedman with limited access, Martha contacted someone she knew who worked alongside her when she was located at the Riedman campus. She indicated her concern with the scenario and asked that they go check on her peer. They were gracious and immediately responded to Martha’s request without hesitation. In addition, Martha called 911 to get help for her coworker who was experiencing a medical emergency. To top it off, Martha then worked with the director and her colleague to attempt to notify the person's family. Out of concern for her colleague, Martha then proceeds to drive to the emergency to physically check in on her colleague and provide support and reassurance to both them and their family.
Martha clearly loves our purpose to “uplift humanity through care for our community,” as well as the values of being rooted in community, serving as one, and caring like family, as evidenced by this story and her overall work ethic. Despite the many challenges the department has faced during the pandemic until recently, Martha has been a stabilizing force and is willing to go above and beyond for the greater good of her patients, colleagues, and the health system. Martha is definitely deserving of this recognition!

Martha has been a great resource since my stroke. She is my person to go as she always has answers and compassion for me and for others. A great leader with great therapeutic listening skills. She was integral in getting me assistance when I experienced a medical event at work. She called 911 and stayed on the phone with me, providing moral support. Martha also reached out to another team member to come to me and provide support. Martha went out of her busy schedule and visited me at the hospital to ensure I was safe.
