Nell's experience as a nurse, honesty, as well as her encouragement, has taught me that great leaders do exist.
For the past 8 years, Nell has always shown her support of the staff in CPCU not just while at work but also during trying times outside of work. Nell has always gone above and beyond to help us (the CPCU staff) grow as nurses, as a team, also as individuals. A few years ago, a coworker tragically passed away in her home. A few other coworkers went to her home to support her children. Being the type of leader that she is, Nell also went to her house to be there for the children and for the grieving coworkers. This particular situation has made such a huge impression on me because this was such a tragic situation and Nell went above and beyond her managerial duties to be the utmost empathetic leader to her staff. Her experience as a nurse, honesty, as well as her encouragement, has taught me that great leaders do exist. She is very well respected on our unit and her leadership style is so admirable. I am truly blessed to have met her and have her as a leader.

How can I describe just one situation when I have so many? When I say she is truly a leader, what I mean to say is that she’s truly a genuine, compassionate, and caring leader towards her staff. She doesn’t hesitate to assist the unit in any situation. If she notices a nurse is super busy, she’s right there at the bedside helping in every way. She’s always making sure her staff is happy and is compassionate about improving and maintaining unit morale. Her appearance on the floor is calm and nurturing. Parents as well as staff feel very comfortable approaching her with any concerns that may arise. She’s easy to approach and is a wonderful listener. I’ve had many managers in my 19 years as a nurse and if I could pick one of them who I’d love to follow in their footsteps, it would be her!!!
