A patient we recently had could speak little English, was scared of needles, but understood she needed a new IV site. I'm not the best at starting IVs, however, the best was working that day - Mary Alice. The patient agreed to one try, that's all we needed. You see - Mary Alice is known all over the hospital for starting IVs for the different units. Every night she works, she averages 3-5 IVs. She is a nurse that truly and accurately describes what a compassionate and inspirational nurse is. Mary Alice is as highly respected as she is respectful. She is nurturing, honest, selfless, responsible, and embraces equality and family values. Mary Alice consistently demonstrates nursing excellence and is an extraordinary clinical expert. I could go on and on about Mary Alice but you get the idea. She is amazing. I am honored to work beside her. Oh yes - the patient hugged her for getting it with one stick and even stated - "No hurt, thank you!"
