I was out of town when my mom fell and experienced a spiral fracture of her femur. My son was in the ED with her and by time I arrived at the hospital I was both emotionally and physically exhausted and had no idea what to expect when I would see my mom. As I opened the doors into the unit with great trepidation, the charge nurse Mary Ann Brillantes met me and introduced herself. She said she had been waiting for me so that she could explain to me what had happened so far, update me on my mom’s condition and answer any questions I had. What a comfort that was to me. Mary Ann was very thorough and straightforward and when I entered my mom’s hospital room a few minutes later, I felt in complete control. I was able to calm her down, and answer some of her questions and make plans for the next morning; all as a result of Mary Ann’s interventions. I encountered Mary Ann several more times during the almost 2 weeks my mom was at NWTHS. Mary Ann always remembered my name and always was encouraging and helpful!
