As private caregivers, we have the unique privilege of caring for people for an extended period. Mary Ann is the Clinical Coordinator for Home Assist where she oversees the care coordination of 80 clients. She is a leader with grace and generosity rarely seen in someone with her long list of achievements. Mary Ann is a very skilled, enthusiastic and kindhearted individual. In 2017, a client under Mary Ann's care for three years became terminally ill and she knew the client's wishes to die at home. Her coordination with all the specialists and the patient's family (who lived out of town), ensured the client's wishes were respected and upheld when Hospice wanted to move her to a facility. She stayed with the client at the home into the late hours of the night until she passed because her family could not be with her. Today we have a client whom Mary Ann has been caring for almost five years; she is terminally ill. Mary Ann once again has taken a very active role making sure the client's wishes are respected. She mourns for each client that passes and always wonders if she should have or could have done more. More importantly, she makes a powerful, positive difference in the lives of our patients, their families and all of her coworkers.
