This weekend, Mary Buchholtz was caring for a patient that became critically ill and declined very rapidly. Although FIT was no longer part of the treatment team, she was concerned enough to reach out to me and advocate proper care for this patient. When I came to assess this patient, he was massively hemorrhaging and required immediate transfer to ICU, started on pressors, required multi-disciplinary specialty collaboration, and massive transfusion protocol initiation.
Mary's compassion and integrity to do the right thing for this patient is the reason I hold her solely responsible for saving this patient's life. Had it not been for her erudite medical judgment, quick and necessary communication, I do not know if he would have survived this trauma.
Thank you, Mary, for your hard work, compassion, integrity, and outstanding performance. For me, working with her for over 5 years has been an honor. She may not know it, but she has taught me how to be a better Provider with her excellent leadership skills.
Note: This is Mary's 2nd DAISY Award!
