She was able to calm my nerves and really be there for me. She treated me with such tenderness and care.
Mary Jo was my nurse during my blood patch procedure following the labor of my first child. This procedure was terrifying, being that everyone we spoke to had differing opinions on the procedure (still not sure if all opinions were from a place of actual knowledge or experience), some saying the spinal headache could get worse. I was at a loss I couldn’t take care of my newborn with my spinal headache which really made me feel inadequate as a first-time mom. It was hard watching my husband do all the work as I couldn’t stand up straight without an intense migraine which rendered me basically useless. Although hesitant, I decided to go through with the procedure.
Mary Jo was the best nurse I could’ve asked for and was my rock through the entire procedure. She was able to calm my nerves and really be there for me. She treated me with such tenderness and care. She asked me questions about my personal life to distract me from the very painful IV insertion and scary epidural. She held my hand, told me to breathe, and really provided the best care and comfort to a very scary procedure. Unfortunately, I believe she was with another patient when I was discharged so I never got to thank her.
I am now three weeks postpartum taking care of my newborn and feel like a real mom. I have Mary Jo to thank for being part of the procedure that really helped make where I am today possible. If you see this, thank you so much, Mary Jo. From the bottom of my heart, best wishes to you and your family. Your actions are not unnoticed, and your work makes a difference. Thank you for being you.
