Thank you, Matt, for being so generous with your own time.
My son-in-law brought my daughter to the ER. She was in severe pain. My son-in-law called me and asked if I could come to the ER to be with my daughter because he had to attend a fundraiser he was hosting himself. I got to the ER and sat with my daughter until they released her, and I took her home. I myself had to rush home and get ready to come back to the hospital because I was scheduled to work at 2 pm. I am a patient companion, and I was to work on 5 West.
While I was sitting with my patient, my son-in-law texted me and said he had brought my daughter back to the ER because of more severe pain. I called my supervisor and asked if she could find someone to replace me, but she could not! At 6:30 pm, the nurse in charge of my patient could tell that I was visibly upset and asked me what was wrong. I told him what was happening with my daughter. He told me just to go to the ER. He would sit with my patient until my return. I knew he was busy with his own work, but he insisted that I go even though his shift was coming to an end, and he still had plenty of work to do. I did, and I'm very thankful he let me do it. My daughter was admitted to the hospital with a severe neck injury. I still cry when I think about that day. Thank you, Matt, for being so generous with your own time. I will never forget what you did for me. Love and thanks!
