May-Ann began her nursing career in Saudi Arabia in November 2014, just months after getting married. With her husband’s encouragement, she joined Saudi German Hospital, stepping into a world of new challenges—adapting to a different healthcare system, overcoming language barriers, and adjusting to a new culture. Despite these obstacles, she embraced her role with determination and quickly found her rhythm in the clinical setting.
Her journey was not without trials. A transfer to the Second Floor South tested her resilience as she navigated both professional scrutiny and personal hardships. However, instead of being discouraged, May-Ann emerged stronger. She found her stride in the Pediatric ICU and later in the Oncology Department, where she thrived with the support of an encouraging and collaborative team. Beyond her clinical expertise, May-Ann has been a dedicated advocate for both patients and colleagues. For nearly three years, she has served as a DAISY Coordinator, playing a key role in our Magnet Journey as a writer and champion for nursing excellence. Stepping up as Acting Nurse Manager in the Ambulatory Care Clinics, she successfully led her team through critical transitions in the absence of a manager, demonstrating remarkable leadership and adaptability.
Her passion for improving healthcare practices is evident in her work. Before becoming Chair of the Clinical and Quality Council, she was actively involved in various committees, contributing to policy improvements and best practices. Representing the Nursing Department at international symposiums and serving as a resource speaker in nursing continuing professional development sessions, she has elevated the visibility and impact of our team.
May-Ann’s journey has not been without personal hardships. She has faced her own health challenges while enduring the emotional toll of her mother’s battle with cancer. Yet, through it all, she has remained a source of strength and inspiration. Her creativity shines in the meticulous planning of DAISY Award ceremonies, where she personally crafts decorations to celebrate the dedication of her colleagues—all while balancing her responsibilities as a devoted mother.
Her contributions to evidence-based practices in the Oncology Department have earned her team significant recognition. Her ability to lead with compassion, advocate for her peers, and balance the demands of both work and family exemplifies her unwavering dedication.
May-Ann truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award through her commitment to nursing excellence, patient care, and the empowerment of her colleagues. Her remarkable journey deserves to be recognized and celebrated.
