Main PACU Nurse Mee-Shan created a safe and private space in the extended PACU area so that the patient and her partner had an opportunity to say goodbye to the baby they so tragically lost.
A patient came in to have a procedure that would ultimately end her pregnancy prematurely and certainly very tragically. The patient experienced a premature rupture of membrane at home, and the fetus’ gestational age was not compatible with life outside of the womb. The patient and her partner were added to the surgery schedule quite urgently as the patient’s health was also at risk. The patient understandably was trying her best to control her emotions so other patients and staff would not see her being vulnerable and ask her that difficult question, “Are you ok?”

The patient was prepared for her procedure, and upon completion of her procedure OR Nuse Antionette thoughtfully advocated for the patient by trying to locate a private space where the patient and her partner could hold their baby and grieve the loss. Main PACU Nurse Mee-Shan created a safe and private space in the extended PACU area so that the patient and her partner had an opportunity to say goodbye to the baby they so tragically lost.

Though this is an example of what these two exemplary staff members do every day, I want to recognize them for thinking of the well-being of the patient and family as well as doing the right things simply because they are the right things to do. On behalf of the Main Pre/Post Leadership team, we very proudly submit our team members for acknowledgment.
