I had a patient that I was struggling to discharge to home. Nursing tried to work with the patient to figure out a way to secure the IV line so that she could manage it independently, but she was unable to manipulate the tubing to connect and disconnect it for her infusions. She was looking at an extended hospital stay or nursing home placement because of the situation and had become discouraged and upset about it.

Megan came up with an idea and shared it with a facilities tech and carpentry who took her idea and brought it to life. They created a device based on her design, and it worked. They did it quickly and gave it to Megan and the patient. Megan did the teaching and was able to help get the patient discharged the same day!

I want to recognize her for not giving up, being creative, working with the team, and keeping the patient’s best interest at heart. I am so impressed and grateful for her help!
