A patient on ICU and his wife were going to be celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary soon. A couple of days prior the patient had been critically ill that caused him to be very confused and combative at times. On the night before their anniversary the patient became more lucid and realized his wedding anniversary was the next day. Megan offered to help write a letter to his wife for him that night. While the patient spoke the words he wanted to write, Megan jotted them down. Although the patient was unable to write the entire note himself - he was able to sign his name at the end of the letter written by him with Megan's help. The nurse placed it in an envelope with the wife's name on it in the room where she sits every day. The next day his wife came like always and found the anniversary letter from her husband of 63 years.
The fact the Megan took the time to help write the note shows her commitment to caring. Although it would have been very easy for Megan to just go about her business on a busy ICU ~ she gave this couple another "special" moment in their life together.
