Omaha Fire Department received an emergency call for a Code 99 in progress. Engine 52, Medic 52 and Battalion 5 responded to the Costco Gas Station located at 12300 W. Dodge Rd. Megan was already at the Costco gas station, when she heard someone cry out for anyone that knew CPR. Without hesitation, Megan assisted with getting the unconscious patient removed from the truck and lowered to the ground. Megan then initiated CPR and started the Out-of-Hospital Chain of Survival. I arrived on location to find high-quality compressions being performed by Megan Hoie on an elderly female. The quality of compressions being done allowed me the time to ask some vital questions of the husband. I took over compressions as Engine, and Medic 52 arrived on location. Medic 52 transported the patient to Methodist Hospital. Megan was now in the process of ensuring that the patient's husband would make it to the ER at Methodist; this was accomplished by Megan driving their truck to the ER. Megan also assisted the husband into the ER, parked his truck in the garage, and returned his keys. I then took Megan back to her vehicle, which was still at Costco. The OFD would like to extend our gratitude for her selfless actions, kindness, and empathy. Children's Nebraska and the Omaha community are fortunate to have Megan amongst them.
