Recently my husband had a right total knee replacement. While this is becoming a common surgery, it was a stressful first for not only us but for those who cared for us as we are both RN's. All staff on the 9th floor were fantastic but Meghan Doman was a total stand out. Both my husband and I are sarcastic and use humor quite a bit. She saw this and adapted her approach to us making for an exceptional stay. She made sure he was doing things that he did not want to do (Get up and walk! Use that walker! Apply ice). He was not exactly thrilled with the ice but quickly saw that the information was spot on in helping to manage his pain. Meghan's sense of humor and not "cutting him a break" was exactly what he needed. She was kind, funny, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, firm (yes, he needed that at times) and informative. Oh, yes and some slight sarcasm at just the perfect moments. I am thankful she was his nurse on both his op day and then the next day to discharge him. More than once my husband said just how much he appreciated her. I appreciate how quickly we were comfortable with her! She is the epitome of what we all hope to be for our patients.
