Melanie did an exceptional job of assisting a patient who did not speak English to get more medical care that she needed. She listened to the patient's needs and worries and did everything she could to make sure that the patient got the proper medical help. A patient came for a follow-up appointment in the lactation clinic. While there, Melanie saw that the patient was touching her arm, her feet were puffy, and her shirt was wet. While assisting the patient to the restroom Melanie noticed there was more wetness on her shirt and asked if she could look at her post-operative wound and the patient agreed. Melanie quickly assessed that the patient needed more care. Melanie helped the patient get to MB Triage for further treatment. Melanie also called the clinic and the provider where the patient’s newborn baby had a follow up appointment that day and rescheduled it, showing her dedication to her patients. The patient called Melanie a few days later to ask a question after she was released from the hospital. This showed the trust that this patient had in Melanie because she had helped her. Melanie's actions exemplify the qualities of an exceptional nurse, and I believe she is truly deserving of this award. Her compassion, dedication, and commitment to her patients are an inspiration to us all.
