I think my favorite thing about Melinda is her humor and her bedside manner. She has this gift of bringing a smile to the patients' and their families' faces and in that endeavor, she lends them a little bit of hope and some joy in a difficult moment. It's all about moments here. We all have many opportunities each day to change a life, make someone's day better and show compassion. Melinda does that effortlessly day in and day out, because that's who she is.
Fundamentally, she is joy, and she projects that to her patients, their families and her caregiver team. One instance is the bedside watch we did with an elderly patient who was nearing the end of life. We took turns in her room so that she would not be alone while her family was away getting something to eat. Melinda took time out of her day to smile and talk with this patient and make her transition peaceful and support her family. I am very blessed to have such wonderful RNs to work with.
