I received a call from a known patient to the IR department. He often drops in to 'visit' the provider and nurses to say hello and drop off baked goods for the team. On this particular day, the patient came to the IR department to drop off pizzelles for one of the IR doctors. Melissa Cotter greeted him and asked him what he was there for. He told Melissa that he was there for an appointment for a CT scan and was dropping off the pizzelles. Melissa looked at the schedule and told him that she could not find any appointment scheduled for him. She searched the system for any appointments he may have and called a number of departments. She informed the patient that she had not found any scheduled appointments for him. Melissa did find a note for a future plan for a CT scan as part of his treatment protocol. She figured that since the patient was here, she would try to see if she could get the patient a scan. Melissa coordinated getting the patient an appointment for the scan. She arranged to place an IV and escorted the patient to the CT scanner. The patient could not stop talking about what Melissa had done for him. He said she 'held my hand' to take me where I needed to be. He would not stop speaking about how the nurses in IR take great care of patients in the community. This patient wanted to make sure Melissa was recognized for going above and beyond.
