Earlier this year I suffered a stroke. After receiving excellent Emergency Room care, I was transferred to the ICU due to hospital protocol for the TPA procedure. All of the ICU nurses provided excellent care, but Melissa went above and beyond due to her patience and compassion as well as basic care. Working the night shift, she made the first scary night much easier. During the neurological exams throughout the night, she was patient and encouraging, this matters a lot especially when you are experiencing a life-threatening issue and your first overnight hospital stay in fifty years (not to even mention all the monitors and IVs). Her smile and concern transmitted a feeling of well-being. She provided a heated blanket, (asking me rather than me asking her). And she not only provided me one but also to my husband, who slept in the chair that first night. In addition to the warm blanket, she tucked me in. At my age, that may not seem needed, but it was an action that warmed me not only physically, but mentally as well. Again, helping to create a reassuring sense of well being. Due to occupancy, I had to stay a second night in ICU but looked forward to Melissa coming on shift that evening. Any nurse who engenders that type of feeling deserves recognition. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
