My cousin was admitted to Wake Medical MICU and his nurse was Melissa. She will forever have a special place in our hearts.
Unfortunately, my cousin died as a result of a heroin overdose. Never once did she show any kind of disrespect, judgement, or negative attitude toward him. It has been my experience that people with addiction problems are often treated as junkies and looked down upon.We did not get that fromanyof the WakeMed staff, especially his nurse Melissa. Our family was treated with respect, care, love, and compassion. This was the most professional staff I've ever encountered. Things were explained by the doctors and staff, but Melissa wentover and aboveto make sure that his wife, mother, father, and cousins understood completely what was going on with his medical condition. She never gave us false hope, but she also respected our faith in God and the power of prayer.
I just wanted to say thank you so very much to Melissa. She is certainly an asset to your staff.I hope I never have to go to another hospital for the rest of my life, but if I do I can only pray that me or my loved ones get a medical professional as kind, caring, knowledgeable, professional, and all around awesome as Melissa!
