I was so thankful for her quick response.
I brought my 14-year-old granddaughter into the ER with very high blood sugar. She is a Type 1 diabetic and was in DKA. Melissa immediately evaluated her, checked her blood sugar level, did blood work, and started IVs. I was so thankful for her quick response. About an hour after we arrived there was an active shooter warning, and the hospital was on lockdown. She stayed very calm and professional and explained that she needed to go out of our room and that we should stay quiet and not leave the room. I think it was about 45 minutes when she returned. Security was in the hallway. My granddaughter ended up being transferred to Peyton Manning, but I’m very thankful for Melissa Baxter-Standridge and her great care.
